If you’ve every played the card game War, you will know exactly how to play Integer War. In the Integer War adding & subtracting integers math game, the students will place one of their cards face up in the middle of the table. The players will then solve the problems. The player with the largest answer wins all of the cards. The winner of the game is the player with the most cards. My students LOVE this game and always want to play it – even when we’ve moved past integers. (I setup a center for the game so that early finishers can play while the other students are working.)
Originally, I played this math game in groups of 4. This year, as instructed by my students :), I put the students into pairs. The students said the game moved too slowly when they had to solve four problems to find the winner of the hand… Last year’s students preferred groups of four so it is easily modified to your students’ preferences!
